Blue bottle fly larvae (Lucilia sericata), also known as BBF spikes, are a high-protein, soft-bodied feeder perfect for praying mantises, reptiles, amphibians, and other insectivores. Their wiggling movement triggers an aggressive feeding response, making them an excellent live prey option.

Nutritious & high in protein
Soft-bodied & easy to digest
Perfect for mantises, spiders, frogs, and small reptiles
Can be stored long-term or allowed to pupate into flies for natural hunting stimulation

Storage Instructions:

  • Refrigerate at 40°F–50°F to slow development and extend shelf life (1–2 weeks).
  • For longer storage (up to a month), keep them at 36°F–38°F in a dry, vented container with sawdust or bran.
  • Avoid excess moisture to prevent mold.

Feeding Instructions:

🐛 Live Larvae: Drop larvae directly into the enclosure or use tweezers for hand-feeding.
🦟 Pupate into Flies: Leave larvae at room temperature (75°F–80°F) for 3–7 days to pupate. Blue bottle flies are an excellent enrichment feeder for mantises, triggering natural hunting instincts.
