The Carolina Mantis (Stagmomantis carolina) is our native mantis species — perfectly adapted to North American gardens and an essential part of a balanced ecosystem. Each ootheca (egg case) contains dozens to over a hundred baby mantids that will hatch with warming temperatures, spreading naturally through your garden as they grow into highly effective, generalist predators.
Unlike the invasive Chinese mantis often sold in big box stores, Stagmomantis carolina belongs here. They evolved alongside our native plants, pollinators, and pest species, making them a far more responsible and sustainable choice for natural pest control. Releasing native mantids supports biodiversity, strengthens local ecosystems, and helps maintain the natural balance without introducing aggressive, non-native competition.
Once hatched, these mantids immediately begin hunting a wide range of garden pests — including aphids, flies, moths, caterpillars, and other soft-bodied insects. As ambush predators, they blend into your plants and quietly reduce pest populations without the need for chemicals or sprays. They disperse naturally, meaning no overcrowding and no maintenance required.
Each ootheca comes with detailed hatching instructions to ensure success. Simply place it outdoors in a protected area and let nature take over as temperatures rise.
