The Hippodamia convergens is the original broad-spectrum predator of the North American garden—and still one of the most effective. While specialized beneficials target specific pests, these ladybugs are your cleanup crew: relentless, generalist hunters that move through your plants taking out aphids, soft scale, and anything else soft-bodied and slow enough to catch.

We carry Hippodamia convergens for a reason—it belongs here. This native species evolved alongside the pest pressures you’re dealing with, thrives in our climate, and avoids the unintended consequences that come with introducing non-native insects. If you’re serious about natural pest control, this is the species you want working your plants.

Not sure where to get ladybugs that actually perform? We’ve been doing this for over 20 years. Smaller orders ship in kraft paper tubes—keeping them clustered helps them settle and stay where you release them. Bulk quantities are available for larger grows, with same-week dispatch Monday through Thursday so you get them fresh and active.

Why Use Convergent Lady Beetles?
When pest pressure spikes, you need something that moves fast and hits hard. Ladybugs begin hunting as soon as they warm up, making them ideal for quick knockdown of heavy infestations while also providing ongoing cleanup as they disperse through your canopy.

Best For: Fast knockdown of aphids and other soft-bodied pests
Speed: Active hunters immediately upon release
The Standard: Healthy, active, and screened for vigor before shipment

Target Pests

They aren’t picky—and that’s exactly what makes them so effective.

  • Aphids: Their absolute favorite. A single ladybug can consume dozens per day.
  • Mealybugs & Scale: Targets the vulnerable, mobile stages before they become entrenched.
  • Thrips & Spider Mites: Not specialists, but a strong supplemental defense—especially against larvae.
  • Pest Eggs: Helps stop future outbreaks before they even begin.

Environmental Needs & Performance

Convergent lady beetles are highly adaptable and perform well in both indoor grow setups and outdoor gardens—as long as they have moisture and a steady food source.

Outdoors, they thrive in temperate conditions with dense foliage and broad-leafed plants that provide landing and hunting surfaces, especially during cooler parts of the day like early morning or dusk.

Indoors or in greenhouse environments, they do best in stable temperatures between 65–80°F (18–27°C) with relative humidity around 50% or higher. Because they are naturally drawn to light, managing grow lights during release helps prevent them from clustering away from your plants.

The key to keeping ladybugs where you want them is simple: give them a reason to stay. A well-established pest population and access to moisture will encourage them to settle in and go to work rather than disperse.
