Hierodula sp. “Golden”, commonly known as the Golden Giant Asian Mantis, is a large, eye-catching mantis species admired for its unique golden-yellow to olive coloration, setting it apart from other Hierodula species. Native to parts of Southeast Asia, this mantis is a close relative of Hierodula membranacea and shares the same impressive size, bold hunting style, and hardy nature. Adult females can grow up to 4 inches (10 cm), with males being slightly smaller, slimmer, and more agile.
In captivity, the Golden Hierodula is an active and voracious predator, known to take down large prey items such as roaches, flies, and crickets. It thrives in temperatures between 75–85°F (24–29°C) and moderate humidity levels (50–70%), with a tall, well-ventilated enclosure to support proper molting. While generally docile and easy to keep, individuals may display defensive behavior if provoked. Their striking color, durability, and impressive size make Hierodula sp. “Golden” a favorite among both beginner and experienced mantis keepers looking for a bold, beautiful species.
